Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh on Friday assured that strict action will be taken after numerous Pakistani flags were unfurled at a rally organised by Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani in Tral.

"Since the day our government took oath in Jammu and Kashmir, we have been very strict about the display of Pakistani flags. The last time such an incident took place, the person who was responsible was arrested. Similarly, the law will take its own course and the government will act," Nirmal Singh told ANI.

"The directions have been given and the local police are going to act, and in a short period of time, action will be taken," he added.

Nirmal Singh also dismissed Geelani's call for limiting the time period of the Amarnath Yatra to just 30 days.

"I think no importance should be given to such statements because the economic activity in the state goes up by the people visiting. The people who suffered in the floods will be able to earn. Meanwhile, these separatists claim that they represent the people of the state but they only do things that lead to violence," he said.

Earlier in the day, Geelani courted controversy after numerous Pakistani flags were waved during his rally in Tral.

The presence of Pakistani flags at Geelani's rally comes a fortnight after fellow separatist Masarat Alam was arrested for 'provocative actions' for the same reason.
