The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has confirmed sending a report to the Centre on the circumstances leading to the release of separatist leader Masarat Alam.

Official sources said the report has been sent to the Union Home Ministry with clarifications.

Alam's release from a prison in the state recently, triggered a massive uproar in parliament and there were calls from several quarters for his re-arrest, as he is seen as the mastermind behind the 2008-10 stone-pelting agitation in Srinagar.
