The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said that following meetings with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), there has been significant progress in forming a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir.
"There is a significant headway, a decisive headway in the parleys between the two political parties and in course of time, the details will be shared with you [the media]," Minister of State for the Prime Minister's Office and BJP leader Dr. Jitendra Singh said.
Meanwhile, the Congress was not hopeful of an alliance of the two parties.
"We won't believe it till the government is formed," Rajya Sabha member Ghulam Nabi Azad told ANI.
"We want to see what PDP will get, with which Kashmir will benefit," Congress leader Saifuddin Soz said.
Two months have passed since the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections gave a fractured verdict, with the PDP emerging as the single largest party but falling short of the number of seats required to make the state government. The BJP and the PDP have reportedly struck a deal for the same.
As per sources, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is expected to meet BJP chief Amit Shah, after which a formal announcement on the state government formation would be made.
