Jadhav's incident wouldn't have happened if we had not avoided dialogue with Pak: Cong

Firing a fresh salvo against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government, the Congress on Saturday said that Centre would have not face such hindrances in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case if it was in talking terms with Pakistan.

Criticizing the Centre for avoiding dialogue with Pakistan, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said problems gets aggravated when there is so much tension between the two nations.

"If we had already been in conversation with Pakistanis, perhaps this incident would have never ever happened. But when there is so much tension in the air and it is being built up by our media, by our government almost on a daily basis then it is inevitable that such incidents would either be manufactured or if they have really taken place then they would get aggravated," said Aiyar.

Condemning the Pakistan military court's move of giving death sentence to former Indian naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, the government on yesterday said Islamabad's belligerent behaviour is not acceptable, adding it will make best efforts to solve the matter.

A military court in Pakistan earlier this week found Jadhav guilty on two counts of espionage and sentenced him to death.

Jadhav was arrested in March last year, "for his involvement in espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan," according to a statement released by the Pakistan armed forces.
