A delegation of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) met President Ram Nath Kovind and submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention for ordering a judicial inquiry or a central agency investigation into the attack on party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at the Visakhapatnam airport last month.

The party leaders also accused the ruling government of Andhra Pradesh of trying to dilute the incident.

After submitting the memorandum to the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Tuesday, the party leaders said that there are many reasons to believe that there is a conspiracy behind the attack.

"We have urged the President to intervene to institute a judicial probe or an inquiry by an independent agency as the accused person has a reason as to why he should try to eliminate the leader of our party. There is every reason to believe that there is a conspiracy behind the attack as there are many loopholes in the investigation," the party leader said.

The leaders stated that without an impartial inquiry in the matter, the identity of the real accused behind the attack would not be revealed.

"There is no proper reply as to why the accused was given a No Objection Certificate before taking him into employment and if was hired beyond the one month period. How a sharp knife was brought into the airport without the hand of higher-ups is to be found out," they asserted.

On October 25, a canteen boy working at the Visakhapatnam airport had attacked Jagan Mohan with a sharp object at the airport. The man was later taken into custody by the police.

The YSR Congress has held Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Director General of Police (DGP) Adinarayana Reddy, Yarapathineni Srinivasa Rao, film star Shivaji and restaurant owner Harshavardhan responsible for the attack.
