Jeremy Clarkson and the crew of TV's 'Top Gear' had to flee Argentina after locals in the Falklands became enraged over the number-plate on his Porsche.

The 54-year-old broadcaster was driving the A Porsche 928, with the number plate H982 FKL that caused controversy, after it was suggested that the plate referred to the Falklands war of 1982, the Guardian reported.

Clarkson, who was filming in Patagonia, southern Argentina, as part of a programme featuring a remote highway passing through Chile and Argentina, said that the attack was "the most terrifying thing" he has ever been involved in.

Jeremy Clarkson's car and presenters James May and Richard Hammond's an old Lotus Esprit and a Mustang were abandoned at the side of the road as the crew reportedly didn't want any more problems.

Andy Wilman, the executive producer of 'Top Gear,' said that show's production purchased three cars for a forthcoming programme and so, to suggest that this car was either chosen for its number plate, or that an alternative number plate was substituted for the original is completely untrue.
