The Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday confirmed that large quantities of cash, liquor and drugs were seized during the second phase of the assembly elections in Jharkhand, adding that polling passed off peacefully.
"The total amount of cash seized is over Rs one crore. The total liquor seized by the excise department ....and the police authorities together is 1.27 lakh litres worth Rs 1.03 crores. We also seized drugs and other narcotics," Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha rold thge media.
"The second phase of the assembly polls passed off peacefully without any incident worth reporting. The average turnout till now is 64.99 percent across the assembly constituencies," he added.
Giving details about expenditure monitoring, Sinha said that the proper authorities arrested people for unlawful practices during the polls.
"There were 262 flying squads which were deployed and 282 static surveillance teams which were deployed. A total of 146 police cases were registered and 19 arrests were made by the police. There were 24 excise teams also deployed, which registered 1680 cases and they arrested 800 people," he said.
The results of the five phase polling will be declared on December 23.
