After the protest in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) turned volatile late on Wednesday night, with students blocking the administrative building and demanding to know the whereabouts of missing student Najeeb Ahmad, the vice-chancellor of the university, M. Jagdeesh Kumar, on Thursday said the university is trying its best to locate the missing student and urged the protesting students not to resort illegal means.
"In spite our best efforts to search for Najeeb Ahmad, the students are relentless and they are blaming that we are not doing enough which is a complete lie. We have tried our best to locate Najeeb Ahmad. However they have not relenting at all and resorting to this kind of illegal means," Kumar told media here.
Kumar said, "We have already formed the committee and the committee is investigating the whole incident. If anybody is found guilty, we have assured the agitating students that the guilty will be punished and the enquiry process will be expedited."
Ahmad has been missing for the last six days. He was allegedly assaulted by ABVP activists on October 14 during the poll campaign at Mahi-Mandvi hostel. He has been missing since October 15.
According to students, he left the hostel without his wallet, mobile and footwear.
