John Daly seeking help after playing 'worst round of career' at Valspar Championship

American golfer John Daly, who is a reformed alcoholic, is reportedly seeking help after playing the worst round of his career at the PGA Tour's Valspar Championship.

Twice a champion of golf's biggest tournaments, Daly, who has also battled gambling and weight problems, carded 19-over-par 90 in the second round at the Copperhead course of the Innisbrook resort in Florida, including an octuple-bogey 12 at the 16th hole.

According to CNN, the veteran American explained his predicament, saying that his game is suffering from the 'yips', referring to the 37 putts he needed over the 18 holes, adding that when he shortens his stroke, he gets quick and misses it left and when he tries his normal long stroke, he comes up and pushes it.

Stating that he never had such a problem before, Daly, who eclipsed his previous worst round of 89 at the 2008 British Open, said that he faced a day where everything went wrong for him.

Daly, who won the 1991 PGA Championship in his debut season on the main US circuit and followed that up with his second major success at the 1995 British Open, has to rely on sponsor exemptions to enter PGA Tour events these days.

Daly has not played at the Masters since 2006, but is often seen selling his merchandise outside the hallowed Augusta club, the report added.
