A judge who was hearing two graft cases against Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia and eight others has been removed from the trial proceedings.
Judge Bashudev Roy, special judge-3 of Dhaka, has been transferred to the position of a special judge in Patuakhali. He will be replaced by Abu Ahmed Jomadar, a district judge and joint secretary to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
Mizanur Rahman, deputy secretary of the law ministry told the Daily Star of the transfer and said a gazette notification will be issued today in this regard.
The move comes in backdrop of Khaleda Zia repeatedly telling the Dhaka High Court that she had 'no confidence' in Judge Bashudev Roy, who she claimed had framed her in the two cases in March this year. The cases relate to the Zia Charitable Trust and the Zia Orphanage Trust.
