Justice Mudgal gives consent to SC's suggestion to take probe on IPL scam forward

Justice (retired) Mukul Mudgal, who headed the Mudgal Commision that probed the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) spot fixing scandal, on Tuesday, said he has given his consent to the Supreme Court's suggestion to further investigate the 13 players named by him in his report.

"We have given our consent...the panel has given its consent. Now, it is entirely upto the Supreme Court to decide. I have nothing else to say. Will wait for Supreme Court's order," Justice Mudgal told media here today.

Earlier today, the apex court rejected the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) proposed three-member investigative panel to look into allegations of corruption in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The apex court has instead asked the Mudgal Committee to investigate 13 players, who were named in its report.

The BCCI had proposed the names of former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director R.K. Raghavan, former high court judge J.N. Patel and former Indian cricket captain Ravi Shastri as the panel members investigating the corruption in IPL.

The decision to form the probe panel was made after the Supreme Court of India urged the BCCI to probe spot-fixing claims against 13 players and officials.

The Supreme Court had recently ordered incumbent president N. Srinivasan to stand down from the post amid allegations that his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was involved with illegal betting in the last IPL season.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar is overseeing the ongoing IPL tournament.
