Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) on Sunday expressed his condolences on the demise of eminent folk artist, radio commentator Vinjamuri Anasuya Devi.
"Anasuya Devi is known to all as a radio commentator who participated in the freedom struggle and actively participated in the social activities," KCR said while conveying his condolences to her family members.
Dr Anasuya Devi was a famous folk artist, music director, and writer. She was also a renowned harmonium player and recipient of Kala Prapoorna Award. She got her first gramophone recorded at the age of 8.
Anasuya presented her talents in the august presence of eminent personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr Sarvepally Radha Krishna, and others during the freedom movement.
She composed and sang the famous patriotic song "Jaya Jaya Jaya Priya Bharathi" written by her uncle Devulapally Krishna Shastry. Her two books 'Bava Geetalu' and 'Compilation of Folk Songs' were released last year in Chennai.
She was also honoured with Doctorate degree by Andhra University in the year 1977. She was also conferred with a lifetime achievement award from America and Queen of Folk award from Paris.
