The Congress on Tuesday urged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to produce evidence to substantiate his allegations that the phones of judges are being tapped.

Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, "If true the charges are very serious one. It becomes more serious because it comes from a constitutional functionary such as the chief minister. Until and unless he produces some evidence for this blanket white statement, I would not make any allegations. Mr. Kejriwal is obligated to produce some material."

Kejriwal yesterday claimed to have overheard judges expressing concern about their phones being tapped.

Kejriwal gave this statement at Vigyan Bhawan in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Supreme Court Chief Justice T.S. Thakur, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Delhi High Court Chief Justice G. Rohini, who were attending the Silver Jubilee function of the high court.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad rejected Kejriwal's allegation.

Kejriwal had said that it would be an assault on democracy and independence of judiciary if judges' phones are tapped.

"I deny with all the authority under my command that there has not been any tapping of the phones of judges," Prasad said.
