Reigning Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber on Thursday overcame Venus Williams in straight sets to set up a mouth-watering clash against world number one Serena Williams in the Wimbledon women's singles final.
The German recorded a 6-4, 6-4 win over five-time champion Venus in the semifinals as she spoiled the prospect of a all-Williams showdown at the All-England Club.
Earlier in the day, Serena cruised into her ninth final after demolishing unseeded Russian Elena Vesnina in just 48 minutes in the first semifinal.
Kerber stunned Serena to win her maiden Grand Slam crown in the Australian Open final in January and the German will once again stand in the way of the world number one's bid to win a record-equalling 22nd major on Saturday.
Reflecting on her triumph, Kerber said she was delighted to be in her first Wimbledon final but added that she would be wary of the American prodigy, Sport24 reported.
Kerber would become the first German woman to win Wimbledon since Steffi Graf in 1996, if she can claim another upset win over Serena.
