Former prime minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia and three other party leaders were sued here today for allegedly killing 42 people during the BNP-led 20-party anti-government blockade.
The blockade has been on since January 5.
The other accused are: BNP standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Mia, BNP vice chairman ShamserMobin Chowdhury and pro-BNP intellectual Professor Emajuddin Ahmed, reports the Daily Star.
After hearing the complaint, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Atikur Rahman ordered Gulshan police to investigate the allegations.
