The Congress on Saturday targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the controversial remark made by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, saying that the Narendra Modi-led party's very own ministers will be responsible for their downfall.
"There is a saying that it's good to have a mature enemy than immature friends. The BJP fails to understand whether to maintain distance or support its own ministers. The way things are going, the BJP's own are going to be responsible for their fate," Congress leader Rashid Alvi told ANI here.
Khattar had earlier in an interview to a national daily said that 'If Muslims want to continue living in India they must give up consuming beef', after which he drew ire of the political fraternity.
His clarification that he was 'misinterpreted' and 'it was not his deliberate intention to hurt anyone' fell on deaf ears as he continued to garner criticism for his statement.
