Anxious parents took away their children from the St. Stephens International Public School in the Kulian area of R.S. Pura Sector in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday after hearing rumours of militants hiding inside the institution.
Other schools in the area were also closed as a result.
Expressing their disappointment over the security system, one of the parents said, "The school should learn a lesson from this incident. There is security guard here. A gunman should be deployed outside the school."
"The present situation is very bad. The parents are extremely worried and some of them were even crying," he added.
The police said there was nothing to be worried about as it was just a rumour.
A search operation later did not find any militant in the premises. The administration has declared a high alert in the area.
