King Felipe VI of Spain has withdrawn the title of 'Duchess of Palma de Mallorca' from his sister Cristina de Borbon following charges of fraud being levelled against her.

As per the official statement released by the palace, the official journal of the state will publish a royal decree by which his majesty the King will strip the use of the royal title by Her Royal Highness the Infanta Cristina,Us Magazine has reported.

The 50-year-old princess is accused of being involved in a huge tax-evasion scheme involving her former Olympic handball player husband Inaki Urdangarin, who apparently embezzled millions of public funds through his Noos Foundation.

Princess Cristina was bestowed with the formal royal title in 1997 by her late dad, King Juan Carlos I of Spain.
