The Kings XI Punjab has secured the top spot in the preliminary stages of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) following a 16-run win over the Rajasthan Royals in Mohali on Friday.
Captain George Bailey, who allowed Shaun Marsh another opportunity at number three by rotating out Glenn Maxwell for one game, was rewarded after Marsh responded with a classy 40, while Bailey clubbed a late 26 from 18 to set up a total of 179/4, that proved too big for Rajasthan, which managed 163/8.
According to News.com.au, however, James Faulkner smashed a late 35 from just 13 balls to once again combine with Brad Hodge (31) to give the Royals a late sniff at the game.
The result sets up a final-round showdown between Rajasthan and Mumbai Indians for fourth position and a finals berth after Mumbai defeated the Delhi Daredevils by 15 runs at home, the report added.
