New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson will reportedly fly home from Bangladesh following a fractured left thumb, which has left him in doubt for the home series against West Indies.

Williamson, who is now racing against time to be fit for the first Test against West Indies in Dunedin on December 3 this year, suffered the injury while fielding in New Zealand's loss to Bangladesh in the first ODI in Dhaka.

According to Stuff.co.nz, New Zealand selector Bruce Edgar confirmed Williamson's injury and his leaving the Bangladesh trip, saying that the batsman will be replaced by wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi.

Williamson was set to captain the ODI squad in Sri Lanka next month with regular skipper Brendon McCullum resting, although Edgar said that no decision had been made on a new skipper for Sri Lanka.
