New Zealand cricket legend Sir Richard Hadlee has said that they have to do it right and support their team on home conditions as the Cricket World Cup trophy arrived in New Zealand on Thursday, where the hosts are hoping it would stay after the tournament.

Arriving on a yacht on Thursday in the care of Hadlee, the current crop of New Zealand players got their first glimpse of the trophy they would compete for in New Zealand and Australia next February and March.

The trophy begins a 22 town and city tour on Thursday, 100 days out from the first World Cup match, and includes a mobile exhibition of the World Cup's history. It first heads north to Whangarei and Kaitaia before touring the rest of New Zealand, ending in Invercargill on November 27, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Hadlee said that here is an opportunity to showcase New Zealand to the whole world by being co-host of the 2015 World Cup.

He added that they have to do it right, they have to do it well, they have an opportunity to support their team on home conditions.

As well as visiting New Zealand's seven World Cup host cities, the trophy and its entourage will visit 12 other New Zealand centres and a number of the country's main tourist attractions.

New Zealand's Mitchell McClenaghan, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry and Nathan McCullum were on hand to welcome the trophy to Auckland.

New Zealand would play six pool games across the country, and Wellington hosts a quarterfinal, and Auckland a semifinal, the report added.
