Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur on Tuesday lauded Virat Kohli's captaincy for their "historic" five-match series win against England while adding that India's performance clearly shows that they are No.1 in cricket.
"My heartfelt congratulations to team India, Virat Kohli has led the team well, winning the series 4-0. It is a historic win. I am glad to see young players like KL Rahul, Karun Nair and Jayant Yadav performing extremely well under pressure this clearly shows that India is truly no. 1 in cricket today," Thakur told ANI.
He also credited former Indian skipper Rahul David for grooming young players and making them perform well under pressure.
"Rahul Dravid has done exceedingly well for polishing these cricketers and preparing them for a bigger platform. I think it is helping them to peform in the international platform," he said.
Thakur further said that the cricket board has supported the players with each and every facilities despite the tiff between the BCCI and Supreme Court over the Lodha panel recommendations.
"BCCI faces challenge every day, but we try not to put pressure on the players or on the management. BCCI has been taking all that pressure, but we are giving the team with best of the facilities, providing best coaches," he said.
Today, India clinched a crushing victory by an innings and 75 runs in the final Test to finish the five-match series 4-0 against England here at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
While Nair was declared Man of the Match for his blistering triple century, skipper Kohli received 'Man of the Series' award from Thakur.
