New Zealand opener Martin Guptill's wondrous plundering of England's bowlers for a series-winning 189 not out has turned out to be both a blessing and a curse for him after the exhausting schedule left him with a sore body.
Although waking up after New Zealand's greatest one-day international innings made Guptill realise that it was not a dream, however, according to Stuff.co.nz, he was so sore that even rising from his chair after the press conference looked on a par with a root canal procedure, following a 50 over batting at Rose Bowl and fielding for 40 more.
According to Guptill, he is feeling 'pretty knackered out', saying that he had an ice bath between innings to relieve some of the stress and exhaustion, and adding that his legs are also feeling sore and tired.
Guptill, who had scored an unbeaten 103 two days earlier at Lord's but struggled in the Headingley Test, admitted that he had felt poor for months after his thumb ligament surgery in February.
Guptill further said that cricket is a funny game as a cricketer can feel average one day and feel like 'a million bucks' the following day.
