Launch with 500 passengers runs aground in Bangladesh's River Meghna

At least 500 passengers are reportedly stranded on a launch, which has run aground in the Meghna River in Bangladesh.

According to the Daily Star, the vessel hit a hidden shoal in the Haim Char upazila of Chandpur last night.

Starting from Dhaka, the Patuakhali-bound MV Sattar Khan ran aground at Aktel point in the river around 11:00 p.m.

Till 10 a.m. this morning, the launch was still stuck in the river.

Another launch, the MV Rof Rof, has been sent to rescue the trapped passengers.
