Libya has warned the United Nations Security Council that the heavily armed warring group in the country can propel a full-blown civil war if immediate action is not taken.

The 15-nation council held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the crisis in Libya, reported News24.

The parliament of Libya was replaced in June elections and an Islamist backed deputy was chosen as the new Prime Minister.

There were violent clashes between the rival militias on July 13 over control of the main airport that killed more than seven people and all flights were halted.

The two rival parties of Libya have made the political situation of the country extremely complicated. Both parties are backed with armed factions.
