The 50-year-old rock star took to Twitter to apologize after alleging that Lady Gaga's Oscar nomination, for the song 'Til It Happens to You' from the documentary 'The Hunting Ground', is a joke, reports E! Online.

"My sincere apologies. I made a mistake to comment. I wasn't in the room when the #TIHTY was being written," Perry wrote. "More importantly, I wish the focus to remain on the great importance of the song and the message of the film."

Perry originally slammed Gaga's nod in a series of tweets (which have been deleted), claiming that Diane Warren was the one who wrote the song, and Mother Monster, who performed the track, is only involved to heighten the campaign.
