Former England footballer-turned TV expert Gary Lineker has reportedly praised England manager Roy Hodgson, saying that he is doing a 'good job'.

Lineker's comments came on the heels of his description of England's goalless draw in Ukraine as 'awful' and his mocking of their inability to keep the ball, which infuriated Hodgson, who hinted that the Match of the Day host Lineker had an agenda against him.

According to the Mirror, however, Lineker appeared to try to placate Hodgson with his recent comments on Twitter, which struck a far more balanced tone and stated that Hodgson cannot be blamed for some of England's finest players having a bad night, adding that he is fully supportive of Hodgson and believes that he is doing a good job.

Stating that the match showed a decent result from a team missing a few key players, Lineker also said that his only but crucial criticism is that the team was unable to pass the ball accurately despite having sound effort, defence, tactics and spirit.

According to Lineker, Hodgson will have greater options as the injured players return, adding that he might play Michael Carrick as Carrick is the side's only natural holding player and their best passer.

Meanwhile, the England manager's initial fury was undisguised as he said that he was surprised that a former player like Lineker, who has played and captained England and played in games of this nature, can be that critical, adding that it is his second offence.

Stating that he saw Lineker play, Hodgson also said that he was sure that Lineker also might have played in games which were not that much easy and successful.
