Liverpool has turned down a 30 million pound bid from Manchester City for forward Raheem Sterling.
Liverpool confirmed that they had rejected the Blues' offer of an initial 25 million pounds, plus the possibility of five million pounds as add-ons.
The Reds value the England international, at 50 million pounds, who has also been linked to possible transfers to Arsenal and Real Madrid.
Sterling joined Liverpool from Queen Park Rangers (QPR) in 2010 and is under contract until 2017, but has rejected the offer of a new 100,000 pounds-a-week deal.
Sterling was an influential figure as Liverpool came very close to winning the Premier League in 2013-14, finishing two points behind champions City in the points tally
Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said Sterling had the chance to become the club's "number one player" by committing his future to the Reds, the BBC has reported.
Earlier, former Reds striker John Aldridge criticised Sterling's agent Aidy Ward, who said that England footballer would not be joining the club, even if they pay him 9,00,000 pounds a week.
Aldridge said that the way he has gone about handling the situation with Sterling was pathetic and he felt sorry for the lad.
