A day after heavy downpour that left several residential areas inundated in the city, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and fire department personnel on Saturday started pumping out waters and desilting of drains in the city.

Speaking to ANI, BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad said that water has been receding and will start repairing drains that caused water logging in several parts of the city.

"Much of water has been receded, and once this water is completely drained out, we will start repairing drains," he said.

"Luckily, there was no rain since yesterday night, and it helped to pump out water. The operation went for entire night," he added

He further said with the help from Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), several jetting machines have been placed to expedite the process.

When asked about reason behind water logging, the Commissioner said that the lack of functioning drains in some part of the city lead to flood like situation in the city.

Prasad added that the immediate concern of the corporation is to disinfect drains in order to prevent water-borne and vector-borne diseases from spreading and ensure proper supply of potable water to the residents.

"Our immediate concern is to disinfect all the drains and see to it that residents here are supplied with the drinking water so this should not lead to any type of diseases because of the contamination of the water," he said.
