Locals mourn closure of Parle G's 87-year-old factory, miss 'aroma' of biscuits

The factory, which had become synonymous with Vile Parle station, is being shut down due to lowering production output

Disappointed with the closing down of Parle-G's iconic factory in Mumbai's Vile Parle area, the residents of the area recall the sweet aroma of freshly baked biscuits in the area and said they would miss the fragrance.

The 87-year-old factory, which had become synonymous with Vile Parle station, is being shut down due to lowering production output.

In fact, the company Parle is named after Vile Parle, as its first manufacturing unit opened here.

"I have been living here for the last 45 years. We have been living in the vicinity of this factory and eating Parle biscuits since childhood. We are very disappointed that factory is being closed. When coming on train we get this aroma of biscuits, and we come to know that station is here. We will miss it," said Suryakant Gogawale, one of the residents living near the factory.

"My father has been living here for the last 60-65 years. Now that the factory is being closed the area will become deserted. We used to get good aroma of biscuits and chocolates, that has stopped now," another resident, Bharat, told ANI.

The aroma of, Parle G, being baked in the factory very close to the station made a journey through Vile Parle a memorable experience.

The news of factory's closure has also left the Parle G fans across the nation sad, as they took to sharing their dismay on social media.
