Lonwabo Tsotsobe may need to be 'managed' for World T20 over irregular fitness, say Proteas selectors

The South African selection committee has admitted that seam bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe may still be in doubt for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament in Bangladesh next month despite including him in the squad.

The tall left-armer is an important element of the South African mix in both the Twenty20 and ODI formats, where he has a reputation for being very effective up front and is a good foil for either of Dale Steyn or Morne Morkel at the helm of the seam attack given the angular variety he provides.

However, Sport24 reports that Tsotsobe's career has also been interrupted at times by a variety of injuries - ankle, knee and back among them - and selection chief Andrew Hudson admitted that a minor cloud continues to surround him in that regard.

Stating that Tsotsobe will need to be managed through the tournament, Hudson said that they are hoping for a positive result, as he would not need to bowl 10-over stints often, as happens in ODIs, despite the intense competition in T20s.

South Africa's physiotherapy staff will have to monitor Tsotsobe closely as with Dale Steyn, (6.20 runs to the over), Tsotsobe (6.26) is the most economical of the Proteas' established pacemen in the T20 international format, the report added.
