Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Wednesday tweeted that the occasion of Buddha Purnima should be venerated, as Lord Buddha's teachings have always and should always act as a guidance for mankind.

Modi tweeted by stating ,"On Buddha Purnima, we bow to the venerable Lord Buddha, whose teachings have guided the entire humanity for centuries. We pledge our commitment to world peace, non-violence and service to humankind, ideals that were very close to Lord Buddha."

Buddha Purnima, the most sacred festival of Buddhists, is being celebrated today around the world.
