At least two persons were reported killed in police firing after clashes between two communities in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Television reports said that the clashes had taken place in the Rajendranagar police station area of the city.
The clashes took place near Sikh Chawni near Bahadurpura, adjacent to the Old City, after miscreants burnt a religious flag early on Wednesday morning. Tension gripped the area as members of a community attacked two youths blaming them for the flag burning incident.
Attacks on houses followed while arson was reported in some parts of the area.
The Hindu reported that Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand and top officials of Hyderabad Police were at the spot and reviewing the situation.
Reports further said that the state administration has ordered the imposition of curfew and the deployment of paramilitaries and police to bring the tense situation under control.
Further details are awaited.
