Lorgat confident of WICB resolving issues with players ahead of Proteas tour

Cricket South Africa (CSA)'s chief executive officer (CEO) Haroon Lorgat is confident that the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) would have resolved their issues with players by the time the Caribbean team is due to take on South Africa at home in December.

The West Indies are reportedly scheduled to play three Tests, three T20 Internationals and five ODIs on their tour of South Africa ending on January 28, just over two weeks before the Cricket World Cup begins in Australia and New Zealand.

Lorgat said that he has been in contact with the WICB and is pleased that they are making progress in their efforts to resolve the current issues with their players, Sport24 reported.

The West Indies players pulled out of the fifth and final ODI against hosts India on Monday over a pay dispute with the WICB, and the remaining ODI, one T20 International and the three Test series were all cancelled.

South Africa's domestic T20 challenge begins on November 2 and West Indies players Darren Sammy, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard were originally due to participate for the local franchises, according to Lorgat.

Lorgat said that the West Indies players would be granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs), the document required for a board to release its players to play in an overseas competition.

Lorgat added that they respect WICB's assurances and, in fact, are delighted to be told that they would grant NOCs to those players who would be participating in their RAM SLAM T20 tournament.
