Lovely criticizes Kejriwal for lack of action in Danish national's gang rape case

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Arvinder Singh Lovely on Thursday criticized Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government for not taking proper action in the Danish national gang rape case, and asked if the AAP is the same party that used to accuse former chief minister Sheila Dikshit of giving excuses for delayed action.

"What happened to the party which protested against the cases of rape in the streets of Delhi? Today, the Chief Minister is saying that he will take action after a week, and that he will the study the case first. Now, he is thinking of studying when the responsibility falls on him," Lovely told media here today.

Lovely described the gang rape of the Danish national as a 'shameful act', and said the incident raises serious questions about Delhi's image.

"The Congress has never done politics on an issue like rape. Other parties should also refrain from politicizing such issues. I think the government should take appropriate action in this matter. Kejriwal should himself look into this matter," he said.

"We will not only write to the CM, but also to the Home Minister (Sushil Kumar Shinde). We will tell the Home Minister to order the police to initiate a proper investigation in this case," he added.

The 51-year-old Danish woman alleged she was gang raped and robbed by a group of eight men near the New Delhi Railway Station.

The victim told the police that she was gang raped and beaten after being robbed by eight men, after she lost track of the hotel she was staying in.

Though the victim flew to Copenhagen early this morning, she has alleged that she was attacked as she was seeking directions to her hotel. The suspects are said to have then taken her to an undisclosed location and raped her.

The men also took her money and valuables which she was carrying. The victim, however, managed to get to her hotel, and informed the police about the incident.

Police have arrested four men in connection with the case. Police said the victim had refused to undergo a medical examination before flying off to Denmark.
