Family members of a Lucknow-based woman, who was raped and murdered on July 16, today staged protests to express their extreme dissatisfaction with the police investigation, and called for the CBI to investigate the crime.
A 32-year-old woman's body was found naked with injury marks on head, face and private parts in a primary school in Balsinghkheda Village of Lucknow District.
The incident once again brought to the fore extreme cases of atrocities against women in Uttar Pradesh.
One of the victims' family members told ANI, "We are extremely dissatisfied with the police investigation in this case and we want CBI inquiry in this case. This case is not being investigated properly. We want an independent inquiry and strict action against the accused."
The family member remarked that the family had to sit on a 'dharna' on the tenth day after her death. He also added that the family hopes to meet Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and asked that the compensation amount given to the family be increased.
The victim's daughter also told ANI that she wanted a CBI inquiry into the crime and severe punishment for whoever committed the crime
The Uttar Pradesh police had earlier claimed that the brutal rape and murder of the 32-year-old woman was committed by one person and not by a gang, unlike what previous reports had claimed.
The police have accused the guard, who has already been arrested, for the heinous crime and said that the former had hid his real identity in order to deceive the victim, according to media reports.
