Australia has clinched a stunning victory over India in the first Test by 48 runs at Adelaide Oval to lead four match Test series 1-0 in a nail-biting contest.
India began the fifth day chasing the target of 364 as Australia declared their second innings at the overnight score of 290 for five.
India appeared to be on course to an unlikely victory after an inspired century by their new captain Virat Kohli and 99 from opener Murali Vijay.
Though the Indian batsman Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli started on a solid note, scoring 205 runs in the first two sessions, Australian bowlers ripped apart the Indian batting line up quickly after tea claiming eight quick wickets for 73 runs.
The Man of the Match offspinner Nathan Lyon steered his team to a sensational victory, claiming seven wickets to bowl out the Indians for 315.
