Maharashtra Govt. formation: Uddhav holds meeting with Shiv Sena leaders

Amid speculation that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may tie up with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to form the government in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray is holding a meeting with his party leaders here on Monday to decide on the future course of action.

The Shiv Sena, which finished second in Maharashtra with 63 seats, has in an editorial in its party mouthpiece 'Samna' said that there was no wave for any party in the state.

"There is no clear mandate for any one party but we congratulate those who are blowing their trumpets in celebration," the Shiv Sena said in its editorial with strong messages for its former ally.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had yesterday said that he would wait for a proposal by the BJP and not approach its estranged ally.

"If the BJP asks for our support, we will consider and think about it. We will consider any proposal for a stable government," Thackeray said.

"What if I take the proposal and they say no? Therefore, it is better to wait," he added.

The BJP, which has made it clear that it will be going ahead with formation of government in Maharashtra, has so far kept both the NCP and Shiv Sena guessing.

Taking a dig at the Shiv Sena, BJP chief Amit Shah had earlier on Sunday maintained that his party had not broken the alliance.

In Maharashtra, the BJP emerged as the single largest party winning 122 seats, though it fell short of winning an outright majority in the 288-member house.
