The Shiv Sena on Sunday indicated that it would wait for a proposal by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form a coalition government in Maharashtra and not approach its estranged ally themselves.
"If the BJP asks for our support, we will consider and think about it. We will consider any proposal for a stable government," Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray told the media here.
"What if I take the proposal and they say no? Therefore, it is better to wait," he added.
Thackeray also said that if the BJP wants to go with the Nationalist Congress Party, they are welcome to do so.
"The NCP has given BJP a proposal. If they want they can go with NCP," he said.
In the Maharashtra assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, winning 119 out of 288 seats, the results of which have been declared so far.
A meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Board is presently underway in New Delhi, during which the party top brass is expected to decide on whose support the party will take for government formation in Maharashtra, where it has emerged as the single-largest party.
Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has offered outside support to the BJP to form the government in Maharashtra. However, it will be interesting to see whether the BJP decides to ally with its estranged partner Shiv Sena for government formation in the state.
