Americans view the Republican Party less favorably than the Democratic Party, a new poll has found.

According to the Gallup Poll, just 39 percent of Americans said they hold a favorable view of the GOP, while 46 percent said they hold a favorable view of the Democratic Party.

The poll found that a majority of Americans, 53 percent, see the Republican Party unfavorably, up slightly from 50 percent in November.

Nearly 48 percent see the Democratic Party unfavorably, an increase from 43 percent in November.

According to the poll, 20 percent of adults see both the parties unfavorably, while 12 percent view both parties favorably.

Another 60 percent of Americans view one party favorably and the other unfavorably.

The findings of the survey suggest that Americans are generally dissatisfied with the elected branches of the U.S. government.

The American public has typically seen the Democratic Party more favorably than the GOP since Gallup first asked this question in 1992, the report said.

According to the report, the Democrats have an average favorability rating of 52 percent, while the GOP's average is 46 percent.

Clearly, both parties are currently underperforming relative to their historical averages, a trend that has been apparent for several years now, the report added.
