Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban last year for demanding female education, believes British girls take school for granted.

Malala urged the girls to recognise how 'precious' it was to have the chance to study.

Speaking to the BBC1?s Panorama programme, she said that 'reading a book, having a pen in our hands, studying, sitting in a classroom is something very special for us because once we were deprived from it.

According to the Metro, she told the students of the UK to think that it is very precious to go to school.

Malala has been invited to a reception hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace on October 18.
