Malayalee violinist and music composer Balabasker has succumbed to the injuries he sustained after a car accident on September 25.
The 40-year-old musician was undergoing treatment for serious brain and spine injuries after his car rammed a tree near Pallippuram last week. He was traveling to Trivandrum after visiting a temple in Thrissur with his family. His body will be kept in Trivandrum for people to pay tributes.
His two-year-old daughter, Thejawini, died in the accident, while his wife Lekshmi and driver Arjun are undergoing treatment for injuries.
Best known for promoting fusion music in South India, Balabhaskar was a child prodigy on the violin and had directed the music of his first movie 'Mangalya Pallakk' at the age of 17.
He had worked with Dr. K. J. Yesudas, Hariharan, Suresh Wadkar, K. S. Chitra, Sujatha, Sreenivas, Karthik and some other legendary singers.
He later composed many music albums and performed on stage across the world though gradually pulling out of film music.
Singer and music composer Shankar Mahadevan took to Twitter to express grief over Balabasker 's death. "Very sad. Very unfair! Just not able to come to terms with it. Our dearest #Balabhaskar has left us ... deeply saddened.. a very sad day for music ... our prayers are with the family," wrote Mahadevan.
