West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday congratulated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal for his party's superb show in the Delhi Assembly elections, saying this is a victory for the people and a big defeat for the arrogant.

Banerjee took to twitter to extend her congratulatory message.

"My hearty congratulations to AAP for sweeping Delhi Elections. All the best @ArvindKejriwal the new CM," she tweeted.

"Delhi elex is turning point of present political situation. Shows political vendetta has no place in a democracy. Country needed this change. This is a victory for the people and a big defeat for the arrogant and those who are doing political vendetta and spreading hate among people," she added.

"My congratulations to all the Delhi voters, AAP for big victory. Well done to you. All my best wishes. We are very happy," she said in a series of tweets.

As per the latest reports, the AAP is inching closer to government formation in Delhi with the party leading in 62 seats. The BJP is ahead in 7 seats while the Congress is trailing in all the 70 assembly seats.

The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for the counting of votes. Counting is taking place at 14 centres in nine districts of the national capital.

A three-tier security has been put in place at all the 14 counting centres.

A voter turnout of 67.08 percent was recorded in the polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly. A total of 673 candidates are in the fray this time.
