Former National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Mamata Sharma on Sunday said the criminals booked for raped should not be given bail easily, adding that the rape accused in the Hyderabad case should be given life imprisonment.

Asserting that those accused of rape should be given strict punishment so that it teaches them as well as the society a lesson, Sharma said, "The person, who has done this has 18 cases registered against him, out of which five to six are rape cases. I fail to understand that a man, who has been booked for rape gets bail time and again."

"I want to question the judiciary that do they don't want to do anything in connection with women security and the crime which he has committed. I believe that he should get lifetime imprisonment. So that he learns a lesson and this sets an example for the others. He raped a ten-year-old girl and murdered her. The court should take stringent action against him," she added.

A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered after being kidnapped by a man suspected to be a habitual offender in Hyderabad's Bollarum area.

The accused Anil Kumar was recently released from jail.

According to reports, Kumar lured the girl yesterday evening and then allegedly raped the minor and brutally killed her.
