Premier League side Manchester City got off to a confident start in their Champions League campaign by beating Czech side Viktoria Plzen 3-0 in their Group D clash with goals from Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero.
Manuel Pellegrini's side forged ahead despite a nervous first half with Dzeko's goal after 48 minutes, followed by Toure ten minutes later and then Aguero fired in after a smart turn.
According to the BBC, City's moneybags owners are targeting success this season as the side finished bottom of their group last season and failed to reach the knockout stages in 2011-12, both under former manager Roberto Mancini.
However, the report said that they will have to play in tougher environments when they meet defending champions Bayern Munich in their next Group D match, although the win over Plzen would have given them confidence following opening defeats in their last two European ventures.
City's chances for success are further boosted by the return of captain Vincent Kompany, who completed 90 minutes after being out injured since City's opening-day victory over Newcastle on 19 August.
This was Plzen's second appearance in the Champions League, having recorded an impressive 2-2 draw with AC Milan two years ago, while they also took some decent scalps in last year's Europa League, the report added.
