Manchester United grabbed their third consecutive victory by defeating Hull City 3-0, with displaying an impressive return to form by forward striker Robin Van Persie.
Though United suffered another injury setback in the form of Angel Di Maria, who limped off after 13 minutes, Chris Smalling put the team into an early lead. The lead was further reinforced when Wayne Rooney netted his fifth goal of the league just before half-time.
Silencing the critics, Van Persie returned to scoring form more than a month after his last Premier League goal by adding a third, the BBC reported.
However, Hull city endured their fourth consecutive defeat and are now placed 17th in the league's table.
Former United midfielder Paul Ince said that Van Gaal is not aiming to win the league as his ambition is to finish in the top four. They are improving game by game, he added.
