Sir Elton John pays tribute to late Hughes and voices support for 'bouncer bowler' Abbot

British singer Sir Elton John has paid tribute to deceased Australian batsman Phillip Hughes and voiced his support for bowler Sean Abbot, who delivered the ball that hit his fellow cricketer.

John dedicated his 1974 hit, 'Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me', to the 25-year-old, who tragically died in Sydney on Thursday, while performing a concert in Germany.

John said that he is a huge sports fan and loves cricket which one doesn't know anything about in Germany. He added that an Australian batsman called Hughes died of injuries he received while batting in Sydney in Australia and added that the man who bowled the ball is a 22-year-old called Abbott and it wasn't his fault, it was a freak accident, News.com.au reported.

John continued that he wanted to dedicate this song to the memory of Hughes and to the Australian team and all the cricketers in Australia who knew the batsman because he gave him so much pleasure.

And John added that to Abbott, all he could say is that it is going to take him a long time to get over this but he has a huge future ahead of him so please don't give up.

Then before going on to perform the song, the British singer added that this was for him Hughes, wherever he is.
