Master Maurice Yengkhom from Manipur has been chosen for a bravery award for showing exemplary courage in saving the life of his cousin.

A student of Shishu Nishtha Niketan School, Maurice is among the 24 children from the country, who have been nominated for the National Bravery Awards 2015.

The award will be given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the Republic Day celebrations.

"I saved my cousin brother from electrocution on 8 March 2015. We were playing on a terrace and High Tension power line was close. We were playing with water balloons on Holi and all of a sudden my cousin was standing very close to wires. I got the strained feeling inside me and I hit him hard in order to save him," said Yengkhom

Since childhood, Maurice has been an intelligent and brave child. Everyone loved him for his simplicity and innocence.

"My sister told me on phone that Maurice has been selected for the Bravery Award 2015. After that I got messages from my friends congratulating me for Maurice Bravery Award. I was very happy and I shared my happiness with my family and relatives also," said Yengkhom Junu Singh, father of Maurice Yengkhom.

Chongtham Kuber Meitei from Tera Loukrakpam Leikai is another child from Manipur to be honoured with National Children Bravery Award.

The Award is annually conferred to children between 6-18 years for saving other lives.
