Mark Hamill to be honoured at Oscar Wilde Awards

'Star Wars' Mark Hamill will be honoured at the Annual Oscar Wilde Awards.

Hamill, who returns as Luke Skywalker in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi', will be saluted at the 13th annual event at Abrams' Bad Robot in Santa Monica, one night before the Oscars, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Trina Vargo, founder of the US-Ireland Alliance, the nonprofit organisation that organises the Oscar Wilde Awards, announced the actor as the first 2018 honoree.

"With Luke Skywalker to feature prominently in the Rian Johnson-directed 'The Last Jedi', Mark has spent a good deal of time filming in Ireland," Vargo said in a statement. "It seems especially appropriate that we honour him in 2018."

Hamill, who is 'pleased be a part of this', said, "I attended the Oscar Wilde Awards when my dear friend Carrie Fisher was a recipient."

"Now it's my honour to be recognised by the US-Ireland Alliance in the same way. I find it meaningful because Ireland has always had a very special place in my heart, both personally and professionally. I know Trina Vargo's work with artists and scholars, and I'm so pleased to be a part this," he added.

'Star War' actresses, the late Carrie Fisher and Daisy Ridley were awarded with the honourable award in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
