Matt Prior to miss rest of summer over 'fitness problems'

England wicketkeeper Matt Prior will stay off the fields this summer due to several fitness problems, a report has revealed.

While emphasizing that he is not retiring, the 32-year old player said that he is aware that he may not get his original position back on the England team, the BBC reported.

The Sussex cricketer, who has won 79 caps, tore his quad before playing the first test against India in Nottingham and is suffering from injuries in his right hand and the Achilles tendon. Stating that the pain is now preventing him from doing his job well, Prior said that if he continued to play, it will be unfair to the team.

He conceded that if he doesn't play again, he will be disappointed because he wanted to achieve a few things but added that he will feel good about his past accomplishments.

Prior was the first debutant England wicketkeeper to strike a century in 2007. He is now likely to be replaced by Lancashire's Jos Butt in the third Test starting in Hampshire on Sunday.
